Preceptorships/Clinical Rotations

Due to an overwhelming demand for clinical rotations/preceptorships we are only able to accept requests/applications for the Fall 2024 semester and beyond. This applies for all nurse practitioner and physician assistant rotations. If you would like to reserve a slot for the Fall 2024 semester or later, you may go ahead and submit your application as outlined below. At this time, we do not have any pediatric or family medicine rotations available in our Western Region (KC/South of KC area).

Compass Health Network is dedicated to pursuing educational enrichment, collaboration and study, and offers numerous opportunities for preceptorships and clinical rotations. A preceptorship or clinical rotation is a mentored experience in which a practicing physician or nurse practitioner volunteers to give personal instruction, training, and supervision to a student. Preceptorships and rotations offer the student an opportunity to get to know the particular clinical field, understand the realities of the career, discover likes and dislikes, and to experience a clinical setting. Students report that these experiences are an excellent way to improve their clinical training and prepare them for the workforce.

Process

  • Students must complete the Compass Student Application
  • The completed application must be submitted via email to Student Services
  • Your email must also contain the following:
    1. A letter of good standing from your educational facility; and
    2. A complete description of the preceptorship or clinical rotation requested, including program type (e.g. pediatrics, psychiatry, family practice, etc.), expectations, goals, number of hours required, clinic location requested, and the students’ hours of availability.

Our student services staff will then determine availability and connection with an appropriate faculty member/preceptor to match your program requirements and learning needs. Once a match is found, you will be advised of that opportunity, and additional paperwork will be required to facilitate program entry. You will also be timely notified if a match is unavailable, so that you are able pursue opportunities with alternative healthcare organizations.

Thank you for your interest in Compass Health Network, and we look forward to the possibility of sharing your learning experience.
