This is so much more than a job for me. It is truly a second family. My colleagues exemplify what teamwork means and this can often times be felt by others. One of the most encouraging statements heard from those visiting us is that they view us as “one big happy family”. I believe this begins with senior leadership and the work environment that is created. Our patients and their safety are always the priority for any decisions made. Teamwork is integral to ensure optimal safety and best patient care.

Prior to starting my first job as a Headway Clubhouse Unit Leader in 2005, I was fresh out of my undergraduate program and really had no idea where my degree would lead me. Had you asked me in my undergraduate program if I wanted to work in the field of mental health, I would’ve told you no. Starting my journey with the agency many years ago has allowed me to learn so much and realize this is the field in which I was meant to work. The opportunities to instill hope are endless. It’s always exciting to see, firsthand, the progress our clients make. I left the agency in 2014 to work in another area of mental health and quickly returned to Compass two years later. I returned because I realized this is where I was meant to be. I have had wonderfully supportive team members and peers that have allowed me to learn and grown in tremendous ways. Now, working in a supervisory role, I prioritize my relationship with my team members and work to support them in their own journey, as that is what has been provided to me along my journey in my career and with Compass.

I started working at Compass Health in 2014 as a substance abuse technician briefly before resigning to further my education. I told my supervisor after I graduated, I would be back to work for the company again. I reapplied in 2017 right after I graduated from my undergraduate program and started my journey as an Integrated Health Specialist. Since then, I have gained experience as an employment specialist and later became a supervisor in the Supported Employment program after I graduated with my master’s degree. My current role as the ACT TAY team leader has allowed me to grow professionally as I work to obtain my LCSW. Compass Health offers so many opportunities to expand professionally. Whether you are needing a great foundation to start, assistance with licensure, or mentorship opportunities through working side by side with the executive staff, there is a place for everyone. I believe the agency does all it can to enhance the lives of every staff and customer who walks through the doors. The organizational culture understands the importance of self-care, family, and nurtures personal growth. The Compass Health team are real champions of holistic healthcare services, and I am proud to be a part of their innovative approach.

What do I love about Compass? Everything! The answer is simple, but one of my favorite things I love about Compass is how they make you feel. This applies to both employees and customers. The path you walk in life does not matter; Compass takes you in and helps you grow. In my four years with Compass, I have grown both mentally and physically. Compass has helped me grow through the support from coworkers, education assistance, and guidance provided from titles big and small; no one treats you differently. Not only will you see your personal growth within the company, but there is also the growth of those we serve in our communities. That, for me, is the best part--watching as someone I’m assisting has that “aha” moment for them in their life where everything just starts to make sense, and they can carry out what they’ve learned. THAT will inspire you and others and push you to continue promoting wellness.

I started my career with Compass Health as an Integrated Health Specialist in our Lebanon office straight out of college, and I still consider that office my family. It’s where I grew up. It’s where I cut my teeth in this field. It’s where my role model and supervisor helped me learn and grow. I have many fond memories of that office and team members. My newest role and location, program director of Cedar Recovery Center, has also become a part of me. There were intense moments as I navigated my new role, but leadership stood by me through it all. I have grown leaps and bounds in this supervisory role and have felt supported by my co-workers, as well as leadership. I am grateful to have found my ‘work home’ so quickly with Compass Health and to change and thrive right alongside the company throughout the last 13 years.

While working at Compass Health I have been able to engage in a job that is challenging and rewarding! I am grateful for the immense support from coworkers and supervisors while providing therapy in the clinic. The ability to obtain licensure supervision for my license in the last two years has helped me to enhance my career and grow more as a mental health professional. I continue to look forward to how Compass Health will carry out our mission to “Inspire Hope and Promote Wellness” in our communities.
