Internships/Practicums

Compass Health Network is dedicated to pursuing educational enrichment, collaboration and study, and offers numerous opportunities for internships, practicums, preceptorships, and clinical rotations. These opportunities are mentored experiences in which a practicing therapist, counselor, or clinical supervisor volunteers to give personal instruction, training, and supervision to a student. This experience offers the student an opportunity to get to know the particular field of study, understand the realities of the career, discover likes and dislikes, and to experience a workplace setting.

Process

  • Students must download and complete the Compass Student Application
  • Email the following to CompassonCampus@compasshn.org:
    1. Student Application
    2. Resume
    3. Internship/Practicum description as provided by the school/class, if applicable. This document should outline expectations, goals, number of hours required, agency/field site requirements.

Our student services staff will then determine availability and connection with an appropriate faculty member/preceptor to match your program requirements and learning needs. Once a match is found, you will be advised of that opportunity, and additional paperwork will be required to facilitate program entry. You will also be timely notified if a match is unavailable, so that you are able pursue opportunities with alternative organizations.

  • Application Deadlines
    • Spring Semester: October 1st
    • Summer Semester: March 1st
    • Fall Semester: June 1st

Policies to consider when applying for an internship/practicum

Master's level students are not allowed to provide clinical services to our clients independently. Students in our internships/practicums co-facilitate services, with our licensed clinician present to address concerns should they arise. If your school requires that you provide independent counseling services without a clinician present, we will not be able to accommodate your request.

Compass Health Network does not allow any third-party applications for recording of our clients, including Supervision Assist. Our IT department manages our recording process by providing recording equipment and the transmission of files to the school. We are not able to accommodate any other type of process. Ensure that you work with your school ahead of time to determine if this will work for your program.

Thank you for your interest in Compass Health Network, and we look forward to the possibility of sharing your learning experience.
