Job Requirements of Peer Specialist:
- High School/GED required
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Must self-identify as a current or former consumer of behavioral health, substance use, or co-occurring disorder services
- Must complete a state-approved training program, pass a standardized examination, complete certification process within 60 days of hire date, and maintain ongoing certification as a Certified Peer Specialist through the MCB (MO).
Required only when applicable. - At least two (2) years of experience in behavioral health field and/or experience working with adults with chronic mental illnesses or substance use preferred
- A valid driver's license and agency established minimum automobile coverage required
Adapt of Missouri (AOM) was founded in 1982 and provides community support, psychosocial rehabilitation & other services for adults living with a mental health disorder in the St.
Louis metropolitan area.
AOM became a partner organization of Compass Health Network in March, 2022.
AOM maintains for-profit status.

Peer Specialist
Compensation: $19.00/hr
Due to critical service need of the communities we serve, we are offering a $1000.00 sign-on bonus.* We are eager to continue to provide quality and compassionate care in our service areas and need you to make this happen!
The Peer Specialist is responsible for providing outreach/engagement, motivational interviewing, and an assertive case management approach based on the Rehabilitation Model for individuals with severe and persistent physical and mental illness. The Peer Specialist, utilizing lived experiences, will engage participants in the recovery process, as well as assist individuals by advocating for them and providing community support during their participation in services. Additionally, the Peer Specialist will work closely with other treatment providers and Adapt staff to outreach and engage clients about benefits of services and self-advocacy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – JOB SPECIFIC
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of outreach and engagement techniques while researching, accessing, and learning information about targeted individuals
- Assures that outreach/engagement activities are reported accurately, comprehensively, and in a timely manner as outlined by policy
- Participates in the development of Individualized Recovery Plans
- Provides timely and thorough communication to Community Support Specialists regarding potential goals, objectives, and safety concerns
- Provides individual assistance to clients in accessing needed mental health services including accompanying clients to appointments to address medical or other health needs
- Assesses clients’ level of risks, strengths, and weaknesses and interviews clients, reviews records, and confers with other professionals to evaluate clients’ level of motivation and functional ability
- Encourages medication compliance and providing education regarding medications and monitoring of side effects
- Engages families and/or support systems in clients service needs and progress
- Provides individual assistance to clients in accessing a variety of public services, including financial and medical assistance, housing, including assistance on an emergency basis and directly helping to meet needs for food, shelter, and clothing
- Assists the client to access and utilize a variety of community agencies and resources to provide ongoing social, educational, vocational and recreational supports and activities
- Intercedes on behalf of individual clients within the community-at-large to assist the client in achieving and maintaining their community adjustment
- Encourages and promotes recovery efforts, client independence/self-care, client responsibility and self-determination
- Provides holistic, person-centered care while focusing on independence and self-reliance
- Develops and supports wellness and recovery goals in collaboration with the individual being served
- Performs job duties with an efficient use of time based on client needs and outreach numbers
- Updates supervisor of ongoing outreach efforts, client engagement, progress towards treatment goals
- Meets minimum monthly service provision goals
