Compensation: $20.98/hour

The Prevention Consultant is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating community-based suicide and other risky behavior prevention programming using the Strategic Prevention Framework.

This is a full-time benefit eligible position, working Monday-Friday. This candidate will need to be located in Osage or Bates County. 

 

  • Prepares reports for department, agency, coalition, and funders to report activities, funding opportunities
  • Assists coalitions with various tasks, including but not limited to: pursuing and applying for funding opportunities, making changes to strategic plan and programs, services, and activities to achieve desired outcomes
  • Conducts training and educational workshops to community groups on suicide safer communities, community issues, the Strategic Prevention Framework, and Risk and Protective Factors
  • Assists agency to increase prevention department budget, staffing, and good standing in the community
  • Assist organizations, agencies, community coalitions, and other groups to conduct, analyze, and identify the risk and protective factors for suicide, as well as develop and implement effective infrastructure to support their mission and vision statements and work efforts
  • Use the Strategic Prevention Framework (assessment, capacity building, planning, implementation, evaluation, cultural competency, and sustainability) to assist coalitions and communities in preventing suicide and other mental health challenges
  • Partner with the Department of Veteran Affairs – with targeted outreach and engagement to occur at local community offices throughout the agency’s five county service region. Additional outreach will occur with local VFW’s and Vet Centers to strategize about appropriate ways to discuss mental illness and suicide by firearm, and to discuss options for assistance (clinic locations, crisis numbers, the local VA, etc)
  • Partner with school districts including but not limited to current those currently partnered with compass to infuse curriculum coursework with information on mental health, including suicide prevention
  • Provide suicide prevention education, training, and information to communities using Conversations for Suicide Safer Homes, Question Persuade Refer, safeTALK, ASIST, MHFA, YMHFA, AFSP Programs, and other programs to be determined
    Provide Have a Brave Conversation toolkits and information to firearm retailers
  • Partner with the consultants hired by the foundation to help guide program development and the creation of communication that meets the needs of identified individuals while meeting the objectives of the initiative by reducing and eliminating firearm suicides
  • Work directly with established partners in learning how to craft language, training, and programming to offer support to their constituents/customers while mitigating the risk of suicide and suicidal thought by early intervention techniques, trainings, and programs
  • Work with the rest of the Compass Firearm Suicide Prevention Team to establish methods of evaluation.
  • Continuously evaluate using both process and outcome evaluation
  • Communicate with Missouri Foundation for Health, Openfields, other organizations in the FSP Cohort.
  • Regularly travel throughout service area (State of Missouri)
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a mental health-related field as recognized by the US Department of Education required.

QUALIFICATION(S): WORK EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Experience working with Mental Health First Aid facilitators preferred
• Experience networking and communicating with school personnel and community members preferred
• A valid driver's license and agency established minimum automobile coverage required
