Compass Health is seeking a Youth Engagement Specialist to join their team. This position will work directly with team members of the System of Care-Community for Early Signs and Symptoms grant (SOCCESS).  This is a 30 hour/week position.  Position will be based out of DMH Central office is Jefferson City or the Dome Building on Arsenal in STL.

This position is supported by a 4-year grant funded by Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) for the System of Care Expansion grant. There is currently 2.5 years remaining in the current grant.

A qualified candidate for this position is able to provide youth leadership, cultivate opportunities for youth and integrate youths’ opinions and values. Leadership responsibilities include collaboration with Youth Peer Support staff and their supervisors and the development of youth peer support networks. These activities will occur at three sites (Jefferson City, Springfield, and Joplin). While much of the work will occur by phone and video conference, the candidate must also be willing to travel to each site on a regular basis to build relationships and provide guidance on youth networking development. The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to youth voice and leadership skills that will engage and foster youth involvement at every level, and be attuned to best practice and evidence informed curriculum for youth peer support training and youth adult leadership development.

Job Duties:

  1. Establish effective communication and relationships with all Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHC), Youth Peer Supports (YPS) at the three CCBHCs, as well as CCBHC management and administration.
  2. Work with relevant personnel to initiate and sustain youth peer networks for each CCBHC.
  3. Work collaboratively with the Director of Family Engagement to coordinate trainings, advocacy, and family/youth voice
  4. Travel to the three CCBHCs, as agreed to by the Project Director, to engage with YPS and other young adults at CCBHC.
  5. As needed, attend administrative and other grant related meetings including, but not limited to, System of Care (SOC), Regional Planning and Implementation Teams (RPIT), and the Oversight Advisory Group (OAG) to provide youth voice and advocacy
  6. Advise leadership staff on the development of services, practices, and policies.

Job Requirements

Qualifications: Someone who has *lived experienced mental illness, is 18 years or older, and who has demonstrated interest and skill in working with young adults. *Lived experience involves having been diagnosed and received mental health services as a youth.  Travel required.
