Description

    The Youth Behavioral Health Liaison (YBHL) will assist school personnel in understanding, managing and addressing the behavioral health issues of those students who are not already connected to behavioral health services and providers and who come to the repeat attention of school personnel. The YBHL will be an additional component of the person centered integrated team and works with local systems to coordinate care for youth and adolescents with behavioral health needs.



Core Responsibilities:

    Priority responsibilities of working with local systems would include but would not be limited to:
    • Complete cursory assessments for students for behavioral health service needs and refer appropriately
    • Work collaboratively with existing functions already provided by school personnel.
    • Coordinate services and develop local systems of care for individuals with behavioral health needs who have come to the attention of school personnel; brief case management may be provided.
    • Provide or coordinate training and consultation on behavioral health issues specific to youth for school personnel, law enforcement and court staff, as needed.
    • Establish or enrich relationships with school personnel, law enforcement, Children’s Division and juvenile court staff to ensure proper collaboration.
    • Assist youth, including transitional aged youth, with behavioral health needs in accessing appropriate, voluntary services upon referral by school personnel.
    • Participate in scheduled meetings related to youth initiatives (Fostering Court Improvement, Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative, Crossover Youth Initiative), when appropriate.
    • Attend monthly conference calls, webinars and face-to-face meetings/trainings as requested by the Coalition’s Community Liaison Coordinator.
    • Complete monthly reports, which includes data spreadsheets to track referrals, YBHL activities and a success/obstacle summary.
    • Participate on local law enforcement Crisis Intervention Teams (CIT) to assist law enforcement in dealing with youth with behavioral health needs.
    • Complete all mandatory documentation, as noted by supervisor and/or Community Mental Health Liaison Coordinator.



Other Responsibilities:

  • Act as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Report to work as expected (except as excused).
  • Attend all training as required by Crider Health Center, Accreditors and Funders.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Community Mental Health Liaison Team Lead, Community Mental Health Liaison Coordinator and/or Senior VP of Community-Based Behavioral Health Services.

 

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • A mental health professional as defined in 9CSR30-4.030; a person with a master’s degree in social work, counseling, or a related field as recognized by the US Department of Education or an R.N.
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience.
  • Knowledge of local child serving system.
  • Knowledge of local behavioral health system.
  • A valid Missouri driver’s license

Supervision

  • The Youth Behavioral Health Liaison will be supervised by the Community Mental Health Liaison Team Lead, who reports to the Senior Vice President of Community-Based Behavioral Health.
