POSITION PURPOSE

The Pastoral Counselor is responsible for assuring that the religious and pastoral needs of the patients at Royal Oaks Hospital are met. This is done by providing group or individual sessions with patients as requested by the patient or by treatment team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – JOB SPECIFIC

• Provide spiritual/pastoral support groups and/or individual sessions with patients of all ages
• Conduct religious services of prayer, worship and rituals for patients as requested
• Ensure patients of different philosophies and religious beliefs are offered opportunities to share thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and values
• Document spiritual/pastoral counseling in the progress notes according to policy and procedure
• Assess special needs related to cultural diversity including communication role of family members and special traditions
• Respect culture, beliefs and values of all patients and deliver spirituality/pastoral counseling support in accordance with culture, belief and values differences Participate in orientation and training of staff regarding spiritual/pastoral counseling roles
• Participate in and complete required training and in-service opportunities as outlined by policy and procedure
• Adhere to all confidentiality policies and procedures in regards to patient information
• Remain current on organizational standards such as (but not limited to) CALM Protect, CPR, and Relias learning
• Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

EDUCATION

High School/GED required

WORK EXPERIENCE

At least two years experience as a chaplain or pastor required

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

Must be a licensed or ordained minister
