Job Description

Compensation: 14.60-19.00/hr depending on experience

The Dental Assistant Lead will assist the dentist, hygienist, and other assistants in the care and treatment of patients and provides training and clinical oversight of the dental assistants to maximize office productivity. They will support the dental team by preparing the treatment room, patient, instruments, and materials while performing procedures in compliance with the dental practice act.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – JOB SPECIFIC

Outreach
• Educate/Promote oral health through presentations in local schools, civic organizations, community programs and various other entities
• Promote and implement the Preventive Services Program (PSP) in local schools
Clinical
• Review of health history
• Dental charting
• Take dental radiographs
• Perform infection control and sterilization procedures
• Educate patients about appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health; (tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counseling)
• Counsel patients about nutrition and its impact on oral health
• Assist dentist with the following aspects of dentistry: oral surgery, restorative, prosthodontics, endodontics, and preventive
• Prepare treatment room for patient by following prescribed procedures and protocols instructed by dentist
• Perform patient vitals
• Professional communication amongst team and patients
• Ensures operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions
• Conserves dental resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results
• Help patients feel comfortable before, during and after dental treatment
• Other duties as assigned
Clinical Lead & Management
• Orient and train Dental Assistants
• Disseminate information regarding policies and procedures to Dental Assistants
• Supervise and evaluate performance of staff
• Work with staff to maximize program performance and productivity
• Monitor supply of dental stock, dental supplies, and laboratory needs and order supplies when necessary
• Understand the exposure protocol and instruct assistants on the protocol in the event of an exposure incident
• Assist with front desk duties, as needed

Job Requirements

EDUCATION

High School/GED required

WORK EXPERIENCE

At least two (2) years experience in dental required

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

BLS certification preferred
