Job Requirements of Director of Behavioral Health Consultants:
• Master’s degree in social work, marriage and family therapy, counseling, or psychology as recognized by the US Department of Education required
• Doctorate degree in Psychology as recognized by the US Department of Education required ONLY for Licensed Psychologists
QUALIFICATION(S): WORK EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• At least one (1) year of experience, under supervision, in treating problems related to mental illness in addition to behavioral issues as they relate to chronic medical conditions required
• Working knowledge of DSM-5 preferred
• At least two (2) years of clinical supervisory experience preferred
QUALIFICATION(S): LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
Must be licensed in Missouri under one of the following credentials:
• LPC
• LMFT
• LCSW
• LP

Director of Behavioral Health Consultants
Compensation: $85,888.82 annually
The Director of Behavioral Health Consultants is a member of the person-centered integrated care team and manages the day-to-day operations of the behavioral health consultant team within the medical services department. This position supervises the behavioral health consultants and medical social workers while also serving as a Behavioral Health Consultant.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – JOB SPECIFIC
• Champion integration of physical and behavioral health, prevention, and wellness for Compass Health Network patients and the communities they belong to
• Leads efforts to work collaboratively with leadership across all organizational programs which can include but are not limited to dental, primary care, outpatient therapy, psychiatry, SUD, CPRC, and healthcare home
o Maintain ongoing communication with other department directors and supervisors regarding program/client needs
o Work in tandem with other departmental clinical staff to ensure warm handoff protocols occur for patient care
o Work with the quality department to ensure adherence to best practices and champion quality assurance and improvement
o Be knowledgeable of admission criteria for all programs as well as knowledge of Utilization Management criteria specific to insurance companies
o Work specifically with the Primary Care Health Care Home leadership to comply with requirements as it relates to BHCs within the program
• Lead and manage a team of behavioral health consultants:
o Develop and maintain procedures, protocols, and paperwork/forms on an ongoing basis to ensure program relevance and usability to patients and clinic staff
o Supervise the duties and performance of the assigned staff
o Ensure adequate staffing patterns to meet needs
o Recruit and orient new team members to their functions within their roles, clinics and the organization as a whole
o Disseminate information regarding policies and procedures to staff
o Conduct AIM discussions with direct report staff and support staff opportunities to facilitate professional growth
o Ensure team member completion of ongoing training requirements, supervision, and activities required to maintain licensure and/or certification
o Review and provide feedback regarding patient complaints and satisfaction surveys as they relate to areas of oversight
• Behavioral Health Consultant Activities
o Counseling
- Provide psychotherapy and/or clinical care management for persons served with a focus on patients receiving pain management services and/or that have behavioral health conditions
- Manage a caseload of counseling clients when appropriate
- Function as part of a multi-disciplinary team and participate in weekly treatment planning meetings
o Brief Assessment and Behavioral Interventions
- Provide consultation to primary care medical practitioners treating patients with behavioral health conditions and/or substance use disorders
- Develop joint plans with medical provider on behavioral health aspects of patient care with a specific focus on helping patients change behaviors that exacerbate primary healthcare problems such as diabetes, chronic pain, hypertension, etc. as well as supporting patient health and wellbeing goals such as smoking cessation, weight management, and stress management education
- Provide brief assessment and referral, behavioral interventions, education and short-term follow-up for primary care patients with mental health, substance abuse, and difficulty with medication adherence
- Provide education and support to patients and their families to encourage adherence with medical and behavioral recommendations
- Conduct brief crisis interventions
• Other Responsibilities
o Complete initial paperwork and treatment plans with persons served
o Provide psycho-educational support groups concerning a variety of patient health issues
o Will seek culturally competent services and service providers to meet the unique cultural needs of each agency consumer and family member
o Stay abreast of therapeutic techniques and best practices in the field
o Be knowledgeable of other human/social services for purposes of referral if the agency is unable to provide a particular service and maintain documentation of such referrals
o Interface with other human/social services to provide wholistic services to persons served
o Perform Utilization Review activities as assigned
o Attend all training as required by Compass Health Network, Accreditors and Funders
o Assure compliance with all Federal and State regulations
o Maintain client records, following agency and state regulations
o Interpret clinical policies and procedures to employees, patients, visitors, and governmental agencies
o Conform to the rules and regulations of the clinic and governmental entities
o Other duties as assigned
